Movement Is More Than Exercise
5 July 2026
Went through this TED talk by Keith Diaz on something important, but often ignored.
A few ideas:
-
Exercise doesn’t cancel out sitting: A one-hour workout doesn’t fully offset 8–10 hours of uninterrupted sitting. How we move between workouts matters too.
-
Your muscles are constantly working—even when you’re not exercising. They help regulate blood sugar and metabolism. Long periods of inactivity reduce their ability to do that efficiently.
-
Small movement breaks go a long way: A short walk every 30–60 minutes can meaningfully improve blood sugar, energy levels, and focus. It doesn’t have to be intense.
-
Movement isn’t just for your body: Regular movement reduces fatigue, clears brain fog, and improves concentration. It’s as much a productivity habit as it is a health habit.
-
The biggest shift is seeing movement differently: Taking the stairs, walking during calls, or parking a little farther away shouldn’t feel like inconveniences. They’re small opportunities to recharge both your body and your brain.
Highly recommend spending 10 minutes viewing this. It serves as a useful reminder that all of us need.
