Who Captures the Value of Enterprise AI?

4 July 2026

Alex Karp, Palantir’s CEO, caused quite a stir with his interview on CNBC, shaking up the AI world over the last couple of days.

Among many things, he said it plainly:

“Every single enterprise in this country, these people are livid. They are paying for tokens that create no value… these people are stealing the weights and alpha of my business.”

What he simply means: the frontier AI business model isn’t a subscription, it’s extraction. Enterprises feed in the playbooks, customer data, and strategy memos that make them competitive, and pay by the token for the privilege.

Most frontier labs will say your data isn’t used to train their models, and for enterprise agreements, that’s often true. But the deeper tension Karp is pointing to isn’t about data retention policies, it’s about pricing: if the value created is enormous, why is the model priced like a utility instead of a stake in the outcome?
