Life Is Bigger Than the Court

16 July 2026

Yesterday, while browsing through YouTube, the algorithm threw up Roger Federer’s commencement speech at Dartmouth (2024).

Roger Federer is as elegant on stage as he was on the tennis court. This speech has great reflections from someone who has spent a lifetime chasing excellence.

Would recommend watching or rewatching this.

I keep thinking about this line he shared:

“Life is bigger than the court.”

Coming from someone whose entire identity was built around a tennis court, that carries weight. He talks about not letting your profession become your entire personality. Work matters. Excellence matters. But so do family, friendships, curiosity, travel, giving back, and simply remaining interested in the world outside your own arena.

It’s something that’s easy to forget, especially when you love what you do.
